Lisa Su, an American business executive and electrical engineer, is renowned for her pivotal role as the President, CEO, and Chair of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). At IBM, Su made significant contributions to the development of silicon-on-insulator semiconductor technologies and more efficient semiconductor chips, particularly during her tenure as Vice President of IBM's Semiconductor Research and Development Center.

In October 2014, Su's exceptional leadership skills and vision propelled her to the position of President and CEO at AMD, following her initial engagement with the company in 2012. She served in various capacities, including Senior Vice President of AMD's global business units and Chief Operating Officer. Su's current influence extends to her service on the boards of Cisco Systems, the Global Semiconductor Alliance, and the U.S. Semiconductor Industry Association. She is also distinguished as a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Born Lisa Tzwu-Fang Su in Tainan, Taiwan, in November 1969, Su's family immigrated to the United States when she was three. Her upbringing in a Taiwanese Hokkien-speaking family emphasized the importance of math and science, laying the groundwork for her future endeavors. Her curiosity in engineering was evident from a young age, and she was encouraged by her parents, Su Chun-hwai and Sandy Lo, to pursue her interests. Su's journey in engineering formally began when she attended the Bronx High School of Science, graduating in 1986.

Su's academic path led her to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where she majored in electrical engineering, driven by a desire to tackle the most challenging subjects. Her undergraduate years were marked by a research assistantship manufacturing test silicon wafers, and her summer jobs at Analog Devices further fueled her passion for semiconductors. After completing her bachelor's degree, Su earned her master's degree from MIT in 1991 and later a Ph.D. in electrical engineering, focusing on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology.

Su's professional timeline includes significant roles and contributions. At Texas Instruments, she was part of the Semiconductor Process and Device Center. Her career at IBM saw her making strides in semiconductor development, notably enhancing copper connections in chips. As part of IBM's Emerging Products division, Su led innovative projects in biochips and semiconductors, and her efforts in developing the Cell microprocessor for gaming consoles like Sony PlayStation 3 were groundbreaking.

In 2007, Su joined Freescale Semiconductor as CTO and later as Senior Vice President and General Manager of their networking and multimedia group. Her leadership at AMD began in 2012, culminating in her appointment as President and CEO in 2014. Under her guidance, AMD has seen substantial growth and diversification, particularly in non-PC products and high-performance computing.

Su's achievements extend to numerous board memberships and publications.
